"Our two sons have been taking lessons from Ms. Maya for over ten years, and we are tremendously grateful for the musical skills they have acquired. The boys started out learning familiar childhood tunes like Yankee Doodle, and today, they are studying classical works by Chopin and Bach. Ms. Maya expects her students to be prepared and focused during lessons, and to stay disciplined with practice, but she also allows them to be creative and choose music that moves them. We typically have two or more recitals a year where all the students get to showcase their performance and there is usually a wide range of styles and genres. Additionally, any student can participate in the Merit Certificate program sponsored by the MTAC, where students are evaluated on technique, sight reading, and theory work. 

While both our kids continue to study classical piano with Ms. Maya, they have developed their own styles and preference because of their confidence in their abilities. Our sophomore is in a jazz band and experiments with improvisations, blues, funk, and rock. Our freshman is learning the trumpet and performs with the school Marching Band while also playing the electronic keyboard in the percussion ensemble. We could not be happier watching our boys grow into accomplished musicians, and we have Ms. Maya to thank."
